Spring VideoLab

In this experiment you investigate the motion of a hooked weight attached to a spring. In one case the weight is immersed in water. For the case of a spring in air use the experiment to measure the spring constant. For the spring in water try to fit the motion to damped harmonic motion.

The equipment consists of a 176 gram spring with a 500 gram mass attached to it. Run the movie to observe the motion. Click on the links below to perform the experiment. You will need the y versus t data. Paste the data into a spreadsheet to analyse the motion.
