Calculation of the Resultant of Two Vectors

Contents

Problem. Let us calculate the resultant (sum) of two two-dimensional vectors 1 and 2. The vectors will be specified in terms of their magnitudes v1 and v2 and direction angles q1 and q2. The angles are measured in the positive sense (counter-clockwise) relative to the horizontal direction pointing to the right (the 'East' direction).

1 = (v, q)1 = (100, 60o) ,

1 = (v, q)1 = (130, 140o) .

In your Notebook, draw the two vectors, roughly to scale, and construct their resultant. When done, go to Page 2 to compare.
